Nike Air Forces or Chuck Taylors?

Posted by nfarsun on 13th November 2008

Your clothes may say more about you than you think. The Wall Street Journal posted an article that describes how young workers are rebelling against standard business attire in offices around the country. Us U-30’s express our style through our carefully picked labels, as we know it partially defines who we are.

“Young workers are replacing traditional business dress with their own complex sets of rules and subliminal messages. Their choices among brand-name items are meant to communicate substance. Rather than Gucci versus Allen Edmonds, for instance, the choice may involve Nike Air Force versus Chuck Taylors. (Read: urban vs. surfer.) “

This may be hard for older generations to understand, because when they grew up there were “fashion rules” that said you couldn’t wear white after labor day and buying a sweater set actually meant you had to wear those two pieces together. They see our choices as either extremely informal, or provocative and young. Click here to read the complete WJS article about the younger workers’ wardrobe (and how to decode the U-30’s style!).

VIMBY

Posted by nfarsun on 15th October 2008

VIMB or “Video in my backyard” is a year old site dedicated to youth oriented news / music / lifestyle/ culture that takes place in America’s “backyard” .

The VIMBY Nation continues to grow each week as new young “preditors” (producer, editor and shooter rolled into one) are accepted based on their filmmaking skills and their knowledge of the trends and communities VIMBY covers. VIMBY only accepts programming from their dedicated producers and culture arbiters, all of whom are on the VIMBY payroll.

Taking Personalization to the Streets

Posted by Source Marketing on 13th June 2008

Us GEN-Y kids love to personalize everything and anything we own - from cell phones, to skateboards, to our MySpace pages. We like to express ourselves and claim our identity as an individual, not just one of the masses. Now we can express ourselves on our cars, thanks to CarArt.com. They provide an online studio where you can personalize and design art for your car, then place it on there yourself for 1/10 of the price of a custom paint job!

A handful of companies are now offering a “design your own” aspect to their products via online design workshops like CarArt.com, such as Design our next Pepsi Can, and “Design-A-Doodle to allow their consumers to customize their product.
