What do people think of your brand?

Posted by Source Marketing on 26th June 2008

That’s the question that Marketing Consultant, Noah Brier, is asking with his new web project- Brand Tags
It’s a sort of social experiment, if you will, that measures how a brand is viewed.

The idea behind the site is to explore how different people think of brands differently. When you visit the site, you are shown a logo and asked to type in the first thought that comes to mind when you see that logo. Those thoughts are entered into the databse for that brand and the site calculates how often the words or phrases were used. You can look at what people have entered in about certain brands. And there is even a battle mode is which brands are pitted against eachother and you pick the brand that resonates with you more.

It’s interesting to see some of the off color thoughts that people have. The site enlarges the thoughts that have been expressed more often, so some words are much larger than others. It’s also pretty fun to see how many people associate the same things with some of these brands. And, unfortunately for those guys, it’s not always a positive association. Some of these brands are really missing their mark.

Looks like it’s time to really ask the question- “What do people think of our brand?”

Hey Ladies! Women and Social Media

Posted by Source Marketing on 16th June 2008

It’s no mystery that women and men are very different creatures, but as it turns out, they use the internet for different purposes as well.  Business Week reported in a recent study that while both men and women are avid users of social networking sites such as MySpace, Facebook and the like, women are much more active.

Much of male internet usage revolves around gaming, from anything to role-playing games to online poker and gambling.  The time that men spend on social networking sites is for more “transactional” purposes, the study states.  Men tend to use sites like MySpace to interact with the opposite sex, and LinkedIn for business connections.  With that being said, it’s no surprise that single, younger men are more actively perusing Facebook, and married males are spending more of their time on LinkedIn.

For women, social networking is all about being, well, social.  They spend more time on these sites than men, using them to begin and rekindle relationships with family and friends, and share pictures and stories. Some sites are already targeting women more directly, starting from the applications they offer down to overall site designs that utilize more feminine colors and styles.  The study also suggests that advertising on these networks is more apt to pay off when directed towards women.  They’re making making more purchase decisions, and thus are more likely to spread the word about an offer or promotion.

While more and more marketing dollars are being sent to target both sexes using social media, Business Week advises that when the money is being spent on women, a little goes a long way.

AXE - The Art of Skin Contact

Posted by Source Marketing on 16th June 2008

Axe has a new guerilla marketing campaign going on as we speak: “The Art of Skin Contact”. Axe always generates maximum buzz through viral campaigns and guerilla marketing tactics. Sex sells, they know it and this is latest campaign endorsing the edgy / sexy brand and their new line of Hydrating shower gel. The idea: using the new shower gel generates skin to skin contact with the opposite sex.

This past weekend at the Dave Matthews Band Concert in Hartford, CT, street teams were passing out pre-ripped shirts to tailgaters in the parking lots with the below picture imprinted on them. The ripped shirts were symbolic of the brand’s edgy ads of women who can’t keep their hands off men who wear Axe. Along with the T-shirts, they handed out free samples of the new shower gel. Genius!

Axe also has its own Facebook page with videos, pictures, blogs etc. check it out:
